Truckee River
Current Report
- July 11, 2007 - Wednesday
The Truckee is a good
cold stream that fishes through July with lots of different types
of food sources. It has mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, small food
fish, crayfish and terrestrials.
We recommend
fishing from the town of Truckee downstream to the Nevada border.
Early
and late is best now.
Deep
nymphing below heavy riffles in deep runs is good.

Stream Information
The main Truckee River
holds some big wild trout because it has a very diverse insect population,
aquatic and terrestrial, plus lots of small forage fish and crayfish.
In California it flows out of Lake Tahoe at Tahoe City on the north
shore running along Hwy 89 north to the town of Truckee. Then it
flows east downstream along Hwy 80 to the Nevada border. The best
fly water is from the town of Truckee downstream to the Nevada border.
It normally fishes best from mid-June through July and again in
the Fall when it cools off.
