River Information
The Lower Yuba River flows out of
Englebright Reservoir running 8 miles down to Da guerre Diversion
Dam. After flowing over Daguerre Dam it flows down to it's confluence
with the Lower Feather River in Marysville/Yuba City.
- It is most famous for it's fantastic
wild Rainbow trout population (10 to 20") so near
to Sacramento and the Bay Area. Trout fishing is best in the Spring
and Fall but can be good almost any month. The river has a great
insect population including stoneflies, mayflies and caddis. There
is a good population of sculpin in the river so many swing olive
Zonkers on a sinktip line. Mid-summer they use terrestrials like
hoppers, ants and beetles.
- It also has a small run of Fall, Winter and Spring run
wild Steelhead.
- There are wild King Salmon that
run into the river in the Spring and Fall.
- Below Daguerre Dam the river is most famous for it's runs of
American Shad normally peaking in
June.
- There are Smallmouth Bass and Stripers
in the lower stretches too.
Access on the river has been an issue
with land owners wanting to keep the general public off the river.
There is now a gravel road opened on the south side of the river
starting at the Hwy 20 Bridge. Many float the stretch from the Hwy
20 Bridge downstream about 4 miles to the Sycamore
Ranch RV Park.
