Reservoir Info
Folsom is about 18,000
acres when full and is feed by two major tributaries, the South
Fork of the American River and the North Fork of the American River.
It has lots of access points and lots of boat launches as well.
I has some overnight camping and lots of day use picnic areas. The
lake is popular for hiking, bicycling, house back riding, sailing,
boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. You can wade fish much
of the lake. A float tube or pontoon boat is a great way to fish
the shoreline. Canoes and kayaks are great for mobility too. Outboard
power boats are a great way to fishing this large lake.
Fly fishing is most effective
Fall, Winter and Spring while the fish are up near the surface and
shorelines. Bass spawn in the Spring so this is the best time to
get them on a fly. Fall is good too. Fall and Winter can find Rainbow
Trout chasing schools of small Threadfin Shad to the surface. In
the warmer months you can fish the areas where the tributaries flow
into the lake for cooler water.
