Lake Info
The lake is ~400 acres
with 13 mile of shore line. There is no speed limit on the lake
but there is no water skiing or jet skis allowed. Fall, Winter and
Spring is trout time on the lake. It is heavily
planted with very nice trout that are raised by the
Lake Amador Resort in the fish hatchery below the dam. Spring,
Summer and Fall is the time for the Warm Water species including
Black Bass, Bluegills and catfish. The resort was built and operated
by the Lockhart family sense 1973. At the lodge there is a cafe,
store, tackle shop, boat rental, docks and boat launch. There are
full RV hook ups with 150 camp sites. There are modern bathrooms
with showers and flush toilets. There is a swimming pond and a water
slide now too. Most of the time you can show up to camp with no
reservations except holidays.

Tackle
Most use 9' or long fly
rods in #5 to 7 line size. Have a weight forward floating line for
fishing on or near the surface. Then have a clear slow sinking line
for getting down about 3 to 6 feet. Have a very fast sinking line
for getting real deep, maybe 10 to 15 feet at times in mid-summer.

Water Craft
You really need a float
tube, pontoon boat, kayak, canoe or small aluminum outboard powered
boat to really fish this lake right. It is pretty brushy and drops
off fairly quickly so fly fishing from shore or wading is pretty
difficult and limited.

Timing
This is a year round fishery
that is probably most famous for winter fly fishing for large planted
trout. These trout are not usually very deep in the winter so they
can be taken easily on a fly. This is late Fall, Winter and early
Spring when the weather is cooler. It is also a famous Black Bass
fishery. Bass are usually up shallow in the Spring to to spawn and
in the Fall to feed. In mid-winter and mid-summer they are usually
deep.
