Stampede Reservoir
Current Report
- September 17, 2005 - Saturday
We have no new reports
for this lake but if you fish on the west side where the tributaries
flow in you should have some luck. Fish will be converging in these
stream mouths for several reasons. One would be that Brown's spawn
in the Fall and Rainbows will follow them too. Try anything in olive,
black or brown on a clear slow sinking line. Trout will be feeding
up for Winter now.
Stampede Reservoir Information
The best way to get to
Stampede is to take the Boca/Hirschdale exit off hwy 80 just east
of Truckee. It is 6 miles up Stampede Dam Road around the east side
of Boca and then up the east side of the meadow between the lakes
where the famous Little Truckee runs then up to Stampede Dam. At
3,400 feet this reservoir is open all year. It is heavily planted
which help make it a good fishery for hold-over fish. They mostly
plant Rainbow trout but have planted Browns from time to time. Look
for weed beds, tributaries and there are springs in the lake as
well. It is very good at ice out with big black woolly buggers and
then again in June/July with mayfly, damsel fly and midge hatches
and then in October when it cools off and they just get real hunger.
There is a boat ramp and campground on the south side of the lake.
