Indian Creek Reservoir
Current Report
- April 24, 2006 - Monday
This might be a good place
to try on the opener. Lakes will be in better shape than most streams
this early in the season. Try small black leeches and wooly buggers
for hungry torut this early in the year.
Lake Information:
Located very near Markleeville,
south of Lake Tahoe, Indian Creek Reservoir is a very weedy 160
acre lake that is full of aquatic life. It has good hatches of mayflies,
damsels, midges and caddis. June is normally a big month for fly
fishers and it can go into July as well depending on the snow pack
and weather. Fall is good here too. It was made for float tubing
but can be fish some by wading. At 5650 feet elevation the lake
was first built to receive tertiary treated reclaimed waste water
from the South Tahoe Public Utility District from the late 1960's
to 1989. This is not a fact anymore and the reservoir now receives
its water through a diversion from the West Fork of the Carson River.
There are two camping areas with no hookups or reservations. Speed
limit is 5 mph with a paved launch ramp and no swimming is allowed.
