Lake Information

Davis Lake is one of the most popular fly fishing lake in Nor Cal. It is usually very good in May/June with hatches of midges, caddis, damsel flies and mayflies. This can vary with the snow pack, weather and rainfall. Some years it starts in May and other it doesn't get going till July. It is also very good in October/November when the fish will take anything that is in front of them. The west side of the lake seems to be the most popular for fly fishers.

You can actually do pretty well just wading the points. A float tube or pontoon boat will get you around some but a 12-16 foot boat with an outboard motor will allow you to really check out the lake for working fish.

Tackle

Most use a 9'- 9'6" #5-6 weight outfit with a weight forward floating line and a clear slow sinking line.

Have some fresh 9' 3x knotless tapered leaders and fresh matching spools of 3x to 5x tippet material.

Having the right damsel fly, blood midge and callibaetis mayfly imitations is very important.

Beware

The lake does have a Pike (big skinny green fish with teeth) problem which will probably be dealt with in 2007. Be sure to read the regulations concerning the dealings with this fish.
