Kiene's Fly Shop Instruction

Beginning Fly Tying Class

Jim Christensen

Jim Christensen is the instructor for our beginning classes. Getting of on the right foot with quality training in the fundamentals will provide a solid foundation. You will be able to build off of this knowledge in a life long pursuit of creating the perfect pattern.

The first session will cover information about all the required tools and how to use them. Jim will explain and demonstrate in detail how to properly install many types of materials on a hook. We will then move onto creating basic flies such as the Wolly Bugger, and the Elk Hair Caddis.

Intermediate Fly Tying Class

These classes are each divided into several segments. First will be a discussion of the class objective for this day. Then we will review tying techniques for each of the patters on the agenda. We will go through illustrative patterns, review the "homework" assignments, and then work on your tying technique.
