Just got in from fishing at Spenceville Wildlife Area. Kind of a late start today due to sleeping in. Last 2 days fishing in challenging weather beat me down pretty good. Got up to the parking area around 1pm. Got a big break right at the get go. Stopped to talk to the DFG guy by the bridge, turned out he was heading up the hill so he gave me a lift up the hill on his quad. :D He also told me of a small(tiny) spring fed pond that is full of little bass. They catch them out of there to plant the other ponds. I went and had a look around mid afternoon when it was slow at the big pond. Anyhoo, I caught around a dozen bass at the big pond, nothing over about 2 pounds, missedabout 6 others. The bright side, they were all caught on the surface! Man I love the blow-ups. Only 1 Bluegill today, it still feels a bit early for them. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/edfish333/IM001288.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/edfish333/IM001290.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/edfish333/IM001294.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/edfish333/IM001296.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/edfish333/IM001298.jpg

Great report Ed.

I have heard about that place for years but never got up there myself.

Ed,

Which pond did you fish? I found this map of the area online.

I fished Pittman, out of a float tube. Got hung up by fish so I still haven't made it up to Horseshoe. All the named ponds on the map have some fish in them, checking them out makes for an interesting day. Ed

That sure looks like a lot of fun with a light fly rod, don't you just love ponds? Especially those with lots of casting room? :D Love the pictures too!

Hey Ed,

Nice to see you at the expo yesterday. How does that Spenceville wildlife area work for fishing? Do you pay a daily fee to come in and fish there? Is it open 7 days a week? I have a float tube but was wondering if a sit on top kayak would work maybe better? Perhaps you, David and I could get out there one these days.

NO fees Bill, your 'yak will work great. You only have to carry it for a little over a mile to the pond.
