Folsom Lake is waking up

After a few dry runs out there David and I finally hit pay dirt. Float tubed out at Horseshoe Bar. Int. lines and grey and white clousers seemed to be the ticket. Good bite at midday and then again in the evening. We caught mainly spotted bass up to 2 or 3 pounds, one smallie of about 7 inches, and oddly enough, one king salmon of about 2 pounds. :shock: The king was in the back of a grassy cove, so if you want to target them, that's where I'd look. :roll: Look for me if you go out there, I'll be in a float tube that David says looks like a big giant ass. :lol: :lol: Gotta bass pic that I'll put up tomorrow, I gotta go to bed. Fish are biting in the top 12 feet .

If you go .... be prepared for the weather . The water is still cool enough for fleece pants and a windbreaker . Sunscreen is a good idea because you WILL fry from glare coming off the water (ask me how I know this .... :oops: ) .

A slim Gray/White #2 Clouser is THE fly - I fished different colors , along w/ a mess of different bugs ..... had only one take on Chart/White . Mid-week , early will be your best bet , but even then , you won't escape the jetskis/wakeboard boats .

Ed's Landlocked King Salmon , well ..... that was like catching a Shark in the American - it was where it shouldn't have been , the back of a shallow , grassy cove . Total freak catch ......

Until he catches another one , that is :shock: :shock: :shock: .

One more thing -

If you haven't yet caught a Spotted Bass on a flyrod .... watch out !

Spots are TERRORS on a flyrod - I used a soft Fenwick 7 wt. and 8 lb. Fluro. . My first Spot was over 16 inches and ate up about 6 minutes of my life . Total havoc trying to get those devils to hand .....

Also , they appear to still be in pre-spawn mode . Nice Orange eyes and linebacker shoulders/big bellies .

Absolute ass-kickers on a light flyrod ..... they frighten me a little .
