Past Employees

We have been very lucky to have had some really great employees over the past 20 years. Many of these people have added a lot of their own self into what makes up Kiene's Fly Shop today. Most have moved on to be very successful in new careers as well as in their personal life.

Marilyn and I want to thank them all again for their years of great service to our small business.

Alan Barnard

Alan Barnard

Alan gave us a "touch of class" that we did not have before his arrival. Alan is a fine artist, musician, top fly tier, excellent fly fisher and computer graphics professional.

Alan is now employed by Jones and Stokes, the top environmental planning and natural resources management consulting service in Sacramento. He works with their in house artists and computer graphic staff to produce web pages and other visuals to create an outstanding image for the company.

Alan is now involved in the recumbent bicycles having started a special 'blog' for them.

Chris Pasley

Chris Pasley

Chris was born and raised in Sacramento. Joe Shirshac and Mack Holloway took Chris fly fishing at a very young age. He went to Humboldt State were he received a degree in fisheries biology. Chris worked some time in Alaska at a private fish hatchery and also guided at the Alagnak Lodge. He now manages the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery on the Methow River in Washington State.

Eugene Graham

Eugene Graham

Eugene came to us at around 15 years of age after school one day and said he could do what ever we needed so we hired him part time. He did our shipping and receiving and what ever we asked of him and he did it well. He grew up and is now a successful Technical Specialist for local Center Unified School District. Eugene still helps us with what ever technical projects we need worked on. He is a computer genius, excellent at all aspects of digital photography, a scuba diving instructor plus a great son to many of us including his own parents.

He has his own web site: http://www.computrout.com/

Matt Johnson

Matt Johnson

Matt came around the shop as a teenager. He studied fisheries at Sacramento State University and now works for the CA Department of Fish and Game. He is happily married to a lovely Italian princess, Elise and has a beautiful baby girl, Olivia. They live in the nice little river town of Los Molinos now. Matt is a Steelheader at heart.

Paul Johnson

Paul Johnson

Paul was raised on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. He is a true outdoorsman enjoying rafting, drift boating, kayaking, photography and anything to do with fly fishing. Paul now works for Sage Rod Company, the premiere maker of fine fly rods. He is their marketing director and all around PR guy too. Paul is very entertaining as well as being very focused on what ever he is up to at the moment. He was very lucky to have found a wonderful gal, Amy, who he married in a rare moment of intelligence. Amy is also an outdoors person enjoying many of the same things as Paul. She is a school teacher and they live up near the Sage factory in Poulsbo, WA.

Brett Humphries

Brett Humphries

Brett spent part of his life in Southern California where he began his love of salt water fishing. He also lived for a time in Mammoth Lakes where he learned a lot about the fishing in that great area. He worked as a stock broker for Payne Webber in Sacramento but it was not at the best of times. Brett got an instant connection with stripers in this area when on his first trip with Andy Guibord he hooked a fish in the mid-twenty pound range. Brett is pursuing a new life in Texas where much of his family now resides.

Adam Grace

Adam Grace

Adam did a great job for the shop keeping the inventory under control for many years. He has made a smart decision to go back to college and has moved to Chico now. You can see him on our bulletin board which is a great way for him to stay in touch with all his friends he made around the shop. Adam is also one of those Spey addicts as well so you might see him out on one of the valley rivers with a long rod.

Amy Kiene

Amy Kiene

Born and raised in Sacramento, Amy spent her childhood growing up around the fly shop. Amy handled the shipping and receiving for the shop, and also assisted with the booking and other office duties, and helping Bill with the inventory management by learning to use the Retail Pro point of sale system.

Amy is now pursuing her passion of Yoga which she has been enjoying for over 10 years and is becoming a Yoga instructor. She is going to college now too in Sacramento.

Jason Kempton

Jason Kempton

Jason worked part time for us at the shop. He and his father Rob and younger brother Cody are veteran fly fishers so we didn't have to teach him much about the sport. Jason's favorite stream is the lower Yuba River near the Hwy 20 Bridge.

Jason is now living in Utah, living the good life with his family in Hyde Park, Utah.
