Bill was born and raised in Sacramento,
graduating from Christian Brothers and Bishop Armstrong High School.
He spent some years in college but was "lured" into the fishing
tackle business where he has been ever sense.
Bill has been in the retail fishing tackle business in Sacramento
since 1965. He worked at Arden Sports Unlimited, Tower of Sports
and West Capitol Rod & Gun for the next 10 years. Bill opened the
first fly fishing only shop in the Sacramento area in 1975, The
Fly Hutch, with partner Neil Bohannon from San Jose. He opened Kiene's
Fly Shop in 1984 in the Mueller Corner shopping center at the intersection
of Fulton and Marconi Avenue.
Bill has been fortunate to have traveled the world fly fishing with groups of his friends/customers for over 30 years now. He has fly fished Christmas Island, New Zealand, Australia, Venezuela, Baja, MX Yucatan, Belize, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Alaska, North Carolina, Florida and many western states.
